The Element of Power.

The Element of Power.

As depressing as it may sound, I think that there are some negative parts of human nature which cannot be removed. Those elements are within all of us, it is just that some of us choose to fight against them. It is a darkness inside us all and the worst people in our world are the ones who have surrendered to that darkness. When this happens, they use power for their own personal gain; and if they are in a position of power then this will normally have terrible consequences.

So, what are these things that I think are so deeply ingrained? Well, there are a few different ones, but they all stem from a thirst for control; control over others, over events and, if it could ever be attained, a control over life and death.

Just think of how many people have become corrupted after getting into a place of power? And why is it that so many ‘leaders’ turn into power-crazed maniacs? It is because they have surrendered to that internal darkness. You do not have to go back very far in our history to find some very dangerous people who loved being able to control.

But don’t be fooled into thinking that this only applies to members of governments or councils; it can be seen everywhere but on a smaller scale. Didn’t you ever get pushed around by someone at school? Or haven’t you ever had to work for an overbearing employer?

Keeping all this in mind, is there actually any hope for the human race? Can we ever lead others without feeling the need to control? Of course we can! As long as we are aware of that darkness then we can be balanced, just and caring. But we need to constantly be on our guard against that negativity within us; otherwise, it will begin to grow and turn us into something we are not very proud of.

Last thing before I go I really need to tell you all about the marvelous art exhibit that I saw in Liverpool last week, it was simply a room with loads of shutters in it. Very interesting!
